District Spotlight
District: Sample ISD
Enrollment: ~19,000 students
Campuses: 21
The district recognized the need to strengthen district-wide systems to improve student outcomes and create greater consistency across campuses and grade levels. District leaders identified several key concerns including inconsistent instructional expectations, limited alignment between district initiatives, and lack of systems for monitoring progress.
A landscape analysis was conducted, and stakeholders identified three key opportunities for growth, limited student engagement, limited opportunities to engage with high quality text, and a need for a building teacher capacity.
Working alongside district and campus leaders, various stakeholders including parents, teachers, and board members, we used the district vision and the current state to define strategic priorities.
We transitioned from a broad stakeholder team to a smaller, instructionally-focused team with expertise to determine initiatives that will support the strategic priorities.
In the first year of planning, the district used data to identify campuses for implementation beginning the following year. Systems were developed including performance routines where data was collected and analyzed. Using high leverage tools, we determined that high quality materials were not being consistently used in the classroom, leading to the adoption of high quality materials in one content area and strategic adjustments in the other content. Regular progress monitoring cycles demonstrated improvement in achievement data, consistent instructional practices, and improved campus support structures.
